Sunday Service Recap 02/01/2009

Service was good this past Sunday. We had a guest pastor, Ferrell Hardison (from North Carolina), because Pastor Josh was on a mission trip to Africa somewhere!?

Sunday Service Recap 1/25/09

Well service went rather well today, with just one or two exceptions (I'll elaborate below). Our Setlist for today was:

• All Because of Jesus
• No Sweeter Name
• All My Praise
• Heart of Worship
• For Who You Are

I was really pumped to play today for two main reasons:

1. I was going sans-amp today for the first time! As many of you know or perhaps you don't, we've been having trouble with our wedge/floor monitors as well as stage volume bleeding over into the FOH (Front of House). We've (myself included) been having volume battles... "I can't hear the bass", turn the amp up; which leads to : "I can't hear the guitar", turn the amp up! All of this knob fighting results in decreased clarity up on stage (because then the singers can't be heard, and they're turned up in the monitors which are too loud to begin with!), bleed over into the sanctuary, and overall musical mud! Since Our God is a God of order and not chaos, and as an act of good faith on my part, I was the first to voluntarily sacrifice my sweet sounding amp that my loving dear wife bought me! All I can say is...much better! It will take some getting used to, Joel and I are going to try and work on tweaking the eq and arrange for differences between my electric and the acoustic-electric. So as it stands now, my setup is as follows:Dean Electric,Dean Acoustic-Electric,Line 6 Pod XT Live, Direct Box, Samson Wireless Setup(See Below).
   

   This is now an open challenge to my fellow amped brother's in Christ...LAY DOWN YOUR AMPS!

2. Also, to aid in the decreasing of visible clutter (to go along with the musical clutter) I went out and bought a Samson wireless for my guitars! However, I was so excited to play with it last night, that I overslept, and walked out without the ac adapter for the base unit!!!!! Aggh, oh well...there's always Wednesday night service.
   

As far as the sermon today, Pastor Josh continued on our "The Fast and the Furious" Series. Since yesterday was the final day of the church's 21 day fast, pastor spoke to us about what God is doing for us as a Church Body, Campus Church, and Individually.
Although we were suppose to start going to two Sunday Services next month, using the newly installed projector and screen, it looks like now we are going to focus on completing the pavilion project (turning the outdoor pavilion into a full fledged building), which will be used on Wednesday nights by the youth and on Sundays as a Cafe style service and will use the screen and projector.

Goodbye 2008!!!

Well we ended the year with a sermon from Pastor Larry Booth. He is Pastor Ben's father, and he and his wife came down from Ottawa, Canada (and brought the cold weather Ben says!).  His message was timely and pertinent to this church/body at this particular time.  The sermon was titled: "You have not passed this way before!"  Basically, preaching from Joshua 2 & 3, Pastor Larry spoke of answering 5 important questions:

1. Will you let God use someone that you wouldn't pick to use?
2. Will you move when God moves?
3. Will you let God sanctify you?
4. Will you go where you've never been?
5. Will you go, even if it is not convenient?

# 4 is very important to this church right now, with all the new changes that we are about to undertake, it can seem to be overwhelming and as if we are betraying our principles and doctrine. In Joshua 3:3-4 we see that the Israelites are told:

3When you shall see the ark of the covenant of the Lord our God, and our priests and the Levites bearing it, you shall depart from your places, and you shall go after it.
4 But let there be a distance between you and it; you shall stand as much as two thousand cubits from it. Do not draw near to it, that you may know the way which you are to go; for you have not gone the way before.

The Israelites were told not to follow to close to the Ark, so that they could see when it went left or went right...so that they could know where God was going. Pastor Larry pointed out that sometimes we are so focused on tradition that we forget to keep our focus on Christ...yes the traditions were of God, but they are not God!  Perhaps we should in this new year keep an open mind, heart and eye toward the new things that God is doing in this church.

No Rehearsal!!!

There will be no rehearsal tonight, Dec. 15th, 2008, due to the incoming inclement weather.  We'll meet at the regular time on Wednesday the 17th, before service.

Getting Ready for Christmas Play

   Well, the last few days have been sort of chaotic, preparing for FWO-McEwen's Christmas Play, The Toymaker's Dream.  On Saturday (12/13/08) evening, I stayed up until 4am the next morning working on the audio sequences for the play.
   The original audio was separated into individual pieces, music (soundtrack), narration, and soundeffects.  What I was able to do with my trusty new iMac & Garageband software, was to mix the above mentioned individual sounds together as separate tracks then save by act and/or scene. This will allow me to play all the sounds for a particular scene with the click of a mouse instead of 5-10 clicks that it would have taken before.
   What took me the longest time was going through the video of the play (oh yeah, I also had to find a 4-6 pin firewire cord, so that I could download the play from minidv camcorder to iMac, thanks RadioShack) and write down the time when each sound event started and stopped!
   The play will be presented at FWO-McEwen (click link for directions) on Saturday, Dec. 20th @ 5pm and on Sunday, Dec. 21st @ 9:45am. For ticket or other information

   Also, the Waverly campus presented the play The Music Box, but unfortunately that was last weekend...my post is a little late!
