Today was Pastor appreciation day @ FWO-Mt.Zion Campus, so we held a barbecue with games (my daughter won at the Cake Walk!) and a blow up jumpy thing! Service went great, even though I had a bit of upsetting news on Monday of last week! (Lost my job! But praise God, He's opened up several doors, that have up to this point have been closed.) So, today when we were playing "Desert Song" I was feeling the lyrics:
"All of my life, in every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing...
I have a reason to worship!"

Any way, to quote another of my fav songs "I'm Still Standing".

Sunday Setlist - April 19th, 2009

Welcome to FWO-Mt.Zion Campus' Praise team blog
This is the for Sunday April 19th, 2009

Today was a great day of worship, despite the torrential down pour! Thank you Lord, we needed the rain!
I was really excited about today's set list, we were doing one of my favorite Hillsong songs: This is Our God. I had spent probably about 4 hours last night, messing with my Pod XT-Live trying to get sound/tone just right! If you're much of a Hillsong fan then you know that Nigel Hendroff uses a lot of different analog & digital delays going at different time settings to get a really different sound. I must say, praise be to God, I nailed it!

If you've never seen the video or heard the song you can watch it below:

THIS IS OUR GOD

At any rate here's the set list:

Sunday Setlist Recap - March 22,2009

Today's service was pretty nice. After the fiasco that we had on Wednesday night (see below for explanation) I think we all decided that nothing mattered except whether or not God was moving! And He was in the hoooousssseeee!

Below is a list of our songs that we did:

On Wednesday night, the 18th, we had some gremlins running around in the sound board/monitors.  At rehearsal (45 minutes prior to service) everything sounded great, but when we got up to play the first chord...no guitar in the monitors! The sound was great in the FOH speakers, as I later found out, but it was a bit disconcerting! Luckily we all knew the songs well enough to just play through without being able to hear the guitar part!

Today after our first 3 songs, there was a high pitched whistle...then the whole board/PA went out! Luckily, once again...Grace Be to God! the sound guy was quick enough to turn it off. When he turned it back on, everything was fine! Go figure! Time for new equipment.

Have a blessed week!

Below you will find the setlist of FWO's Mt.Zion Campus, for March 15th. This weeks set was fairly standard for us; all songs that we've played before, but for some reason (I'll get into this more below) it was just really flat! Anyhow, here's the set:

We did change one of the songs; our singer wanted to do Enough in the key of C; even though it sounds great in G!
When we had rehearsed it, in C, it
sounded really weird and weak! So, for service what I did was capo'd it at the 5th fret and played the normal chord shapes (G C D Am7). This worked great! I only wish I would have had time to work out some different sounds on my POD-XT Live. But I didn't have the time...it ended up sounding a bit like a mandolin! Anyway, back to the flattness of our service!

During our weekly practice on Monday & pre-service Wednesday night, I had dialed in some really nice sounds on my POD...but at rehearsal Pre-Service on Sunday...nothing was the same! I'm not sure if it was the POD (I HOPE no one is mucking about with my equipment when I'm not there!) or something going on with the FOH board!?

Oh well, once again, God reminds me that it ain't about me!

Sunday Service Recap-March 8,2009

Today was a really good day for worship, mainly because a friend of mine (Scott Perrin) from the Waverly campus had challenged a bunch of us to approach worship in a different way today.
My biggest problem up to this point, is not to "perform" during worship. So, I decided to try and forget about everyone else in the service, and imagine that its just me & God.
It was tough at first, to forget about the congregants (sp?); I am after all a performer at heart! The trick is using that talent to lead others and not just perform for them! Still working on that!

Today's set list:

  • Not to Us - A (3 minute countdown)
  • Great God - E (Israel Houghton)
  • Blessed Be Your Name - C (Tree 63)
  • All My Praise - Am (Selah)
  • Pure - D
  • Shuffle: I Know Who I am-A (Israel Houghton)
  • Offerring: Beautiful One-E (Tim Hughes)
  • Communion: We Fall Down-D (Kutless)

Sunday Setlist Recap - March 1, 2009

This was a really rough weekend for me personally and corporately as a praise team. On Wednesday the 25th (just before service) we received news that one of our members (a 17 year old singer) lost her father. He was only 49 years old, was saved, but didn't attend church regularly. His daughter has been rehearsing with us for about 2 months and had just began performing with us, so her dad had never seen/heard her praising God! So with heavy hearts we continued on with our dress rehearsal and then performed.

Even though I only work 3 days a week (12 hours per night) every so often my schedule includes a weekend that has me working from 2pm - 2am on Friday and Saturday and 5pm - 5am on Sunday. This weekend was one of such weekends! To add to the sleeplessness...I was asked to perform at the funeral of our singer's dad's funeral, which was on Saturday at 10am (I had to be there at 9am). I was honored and humbled to be asked and quickly agreed, not quite realizing that after getting home from work on Saturday morning at 3:30am I would have to be up and leave for the funeral by 7:30 am! Yes, all you math whizzes are right...that's only 4 hours of sleep! Hang on it gets better!
After the funeral, I had to drive home (about 45-60 miles) and get ready to be at work by 2pm, work my 12/12 1/2 hours, get home from work around 3:30am...be up and ready to leave for Sunday dress rehearsal by 7:30am (yep, once again 4 hours), perform for service till 12 noon.
Now normally, this is where I can catch up on some sleep as I don't have to be at work until 5pm, so I can realistically grab out 3 1/2 hours. However, on this Sunday I was being blessed after service, by the Baptism of my daughter (she's about to turn 11). Ofcourse, if the baptism service would have been right after church it wouldn't have been so bad...but, it wasn't scheduled until 2pm! Did I mention that we live about an hour away from church? I did? Okay, anyway. So instead of coming home and resting prior to the baptism, we just stayed in town, grabbed some lunch and goofed off!
So, the baptism lasts till 3pm, I get home at 4pm and was able to lie down for oh...30 minutes maybe! Then it was off to work at 5pm, where I walked the hospital equivalent of a mini-marathon, and wasn't able to leave on time; but had to stay over until 6am. So long story short...its been a loooooonnnnng weekend!

Anyway! Here's the setlist:
  • Everybody Will Be Happy (C)
  • My Redeemer Lives (C-D) Hillsong
  • Amazing Love (D) Newsboys
  • Here With Me (B) Mercy Me
  • Lord I Give You My Heart (G) Reuben Morgan/Darlene Zschech
